Perfume and Cologne

Posted by admin in Featured Articles, Perfume, Perfume and Cologne on 08 15th, 2009 | one response

Perfume and Cologne is used for many different reasons but it can’t be denied that the true purpose of these products is attraction of the opposite sex, we see celebrity perfumes on the market becoming increasingly popular, millions are spent each year on perfume advertisements featuring attractive models that appeal to men and women and that result in huge successes and the sale of  perfumes and women’s fragrances is always increasing.

Celebrity perfume and cologne sales are soaring as more and more A list stars are developing their own signature scents.  There are hundreds of searches daily for discount perfume and discontinued perfumes and the market for these products is thriving.  So why are so many people buying perfume?

Perfume and cologne has been used throughout history, first, for its medicinal properties and in later times for the beneficial effects of the essential oils used in the making of perfume.  Not all products contain these essences which are said to have beneficial effects on our health and well being.  Most cheap perfumes are synthetically produced versions which give the same scent as the true essences that for the most part derived from plants like lavender and rose but they lack the true properties of the essential oils that designer perfumes are developed with.

The following are some of the essential oils used in the production of designer perfumes and the effects that these essences can have, showing why they are commonly used to add appeal to perfumes and colognes.

Ylang Ylang – said to evoke passion and desire.

Rose – promotes a feeling of harmony and appeals to women, instilling a sense of calm

Jasmin – a powerful aphrodisiac that has been used for centuries to stimulate the senses.

Clary Sage – well known for inducing euphoria

Patchouli – used for decreasing anxiety

Vanilla – a light aphrodisiac, subtly used in perfumes  for its powers of attraction and known for creating an appealing romantic aroma

Sandalwood – another powerful aphrodisiac and commonly used in perfumes

As you can see, these properties combined with other essential oils can have a desirible effect on their users or anyone who happens to be close enough to capture the scent.

True perfumes that use the real essences are popular and users have described the effects of these perfumes on their partners and themselves as appealing and seductive, much more so than the perfumes that do not contain the oils.

Popular designers of perfume and cologne who utilize the power of these scents, such as the Versace perfume range and the Vera Wang perfume range have seen great success with their ranges and have loyal customers who will often wear no other brand, in most cases stating that the reason being, the feelings of confidence and attractiveness they found from using these fragrances would make them unlikely to switch to a synthetically produced perfume.

Perfume manafacturers are not the only ones who use essential oils, aromatherapists and massage therapists create their own blends to help their patients achieve a sense of calmness and tranquility using a wide range of essential  oils.

We have established that perfume can have a positive effect on our wellbeing and state of mind, so it stands to reason that these effects will also be experienced by others who are physically close enough to us to also take in the scent of our chosen fragrance.  It is common enough to hear different fragrances being described as “irrestiable” or even “addictive” and many people will find that when they are wearing a particularly appealing fragrance they will recieve more comments and compliments than they would without the perfume.

Applying Perfume and Physical Attraction

Perfume is used to enhance our feelings of attractiveness and confidence and the purpose of the properities that are added to certain fragrances are to attract others to our scent, which brings us to attraction or more accurately what physically attracts us to one another.

Sight and our senses like smell and touch are the primary factors we use to determin how attractive we find one another.  No matter how much one likes someones personality, if that person was not attractive to us in at least some other physical form it would be unlikely that a sexual relationship would develop.  In truth it is not all about looks, but scent and touch are a factor in attraction.

A good example of this can be found in the use of perfume.  Perfume is most commonly applied to the inner wrist and it is believed that this is because this is where the pulse is strong, but although this has some truth, another reason that it is applied to this area is that subconciously we are aware that this part of our body can be used to signal openess, or willingness to being approached.  For anyone familiar with body language you will know that some areas of the body, when exposed, send signals to others that we are open to being approached.

The hands and wrists feature much in body language and a woman will often expose the inner wrist without knowing why to a man she is interested in. These gestures are done without knowledge and on the part of the recipient they are noticed only subconsioucly.  If you take a common place where couples meet, like a bar for instance, it is not by chance that these places are often the locations where men and women meet, alcohol lowers our inhibitions, which in turn allows our bodies to be less restrained.

When we feel more at ease our body language shows more, so adding an attractive perfume to our wrists on a night out means our fragrance is much more likely to be noticed by others, simply by lifting our drinks or perhaps raising a cigarette we are exposing this area to others and showing that we are approchable. If we find someone particularly attractive to us, we may even turn our wrists to them in conversation simply by holding our glasses up from the table as we talk.

The same notion can be applied to the neck area and it is well known in body language that we will tilt our heads, or hold them at a slight angle to expose our neck while having a conversation with someone we find attractive.  Perhaps this is why almost everyone applies perfume to the neck area although we also apply it here because it allows us to smell the perfume.

While our body language has always played a big part in how we relate to others, perfume and cologne is used to draw attention to the parts of our body that are most sensitive. It is not concidence that we apply perfume to these areas.
