Marc Jacobs was born in New York on April 9 1963 to Jewish American parents. He had an interest in design as a young man and entered into the High School of Art and Design, in New York, graduating in 1981. While a student here, he worked as a stock boy in a NYC clothing boutique, Charivari. He then went on to get his higher education in Parsons School of Design, where he received many honours including the Perry Ellis Gold Thimble award, the Chester Weinberg Gold Thimble Award and also the student of the year award.
At these early stages Marc was already showing off his gift for design and before graduating from Parsons, he had already sold his first line of clothes. After marc left Parsons he worked at Perry Ellis, this was a short tenure as he was dismissed after designing a “grunge” range. This same range that saw him dismissed, however, it also found him notoriety in the fashion scene. Jacobs then went on to found Jacobs Duffy Designs inc., with Robert Duffy, which still continues to this day.
Fragrances were introduced into his range in 2001 with Marc Jacobs perfume for women, followed by Marc Jacobs for men in 2002. He then went on to release the scent Blush in 2004.
In 2006, he released his first Splash collection: Rain, Grass and Cotton, which were a limited edition release. In the autumn of that same year, he brought out the Autumn Splash collection: Ivy, Violet and Amber.
In 2007 he released Cucumber Splash and Orange Splash, with Rain being also re-released.
2008 saw the release of Splash sorbet: Pear, Basil and Grapefruit. It also was when Fig Splash and Gardenia Splash were brought out.
Lemon Splash was released in 2009 with the re-release of Rain and Cucumber.
Other scents from the Marc Jacobs perfume range include Blush Intense, I Love Marc, Marc Jacobs Daisy, Daisy Eau de Parfum and Lola.
