The Davidoff perfume range was developed by Zino Davidoff in 1984, the first cologne in the range, titled “Davidoff Classic” which is now discontinued, was not as popular as his later releases, Classic was said to resemble another later fragrance by the popular perfumer and designer Tommy Hilfiger

Two years later Zino’s second scent was released, his signature scent, “Zino Davidoff” received better reviews but it was the release of the popular “Cool Water” range that put Zino and his fragrances among some of the top designers today.

The original Cool water was released in 1988, four short years after his first scent hit the market and was a popular choice for many with the continuation of the cool water range Zino Davidoff perfume found fame. The range has now become one of the bestselling fragrances on the market today.

The fragrances are aimed mostly at a younger market, most often at college students although there are some that would be suited to a more mature age group. The cool water range has expanded in the last few years with many additions such as “cool water for women” and the latest release titled “hot water”

The Davidoff perfume range comes under the category of you either love it or hate it, so it is advisable to find a tester before you purchase any of the fragrances.

Recently with popular actors such as Josh Holloway (Sawyer from the tv series “Lost”) featuring in the television commericials for cool water, Davidoff cool water has seen an increase in popularity.

Marc Jacobs was born in New York on April 9 1963 to Jewish American parents. He had an interest in design as a young man and entered into the High School of Art and Design, in New York, graduating in 1981. While a student here, he worked as a stock boy in a NYC clothing boutique, Charivari. He then went on to get his higher education in Parsons School of Design, where he received many honours including the Perry Ellis Gold Thimble award, the Chester Weinberg Gold Thimble Award and also the student of the year award.

At these early stages Marc was already showing off his gift for design and before graduating from Parsons, he had already sold his first line of clothes. After marc left Parsons he worked at Perry Ellis, this was a short tenure as he was dismissed after designing a “grunge” range. This same range that saw him dismissed, however, it also found him notoriety in the fashion scene. Jacobs then went on to found Jacobs Duffy Designs inc., with Robert Duffy, which still continues to this day.

Fragrances were introduced into his range in 2001 with Marc Jacobs perfume for women, followed by Marc Jacobs for men in 2002. He then went on to release the scent Blush in 2004.

In 2006, he released his first Splash collection: Rain, Grass and Cotton, which were a limited edition release. In the autumn of that same year, he brought out the Autumn Splash collection: Ivy, Violet and Amber.

In 2007 he released Cucumber Splash and Orange Splash, with Rain being also re-released.

2008 saw the release of Splash sorbet: Pear, Basil and Grapefruit. It also was when Fig Splash and Gardenia Splash were brought out.

Lemon Splash was released in 2009 with the re-release of Rain and Cucumber.

Other scents from the Marc Jacobs perfume range include Blush Intense, I Love Marc, Marc Jacobs Daisy, Daisy Eau de Parfum and Lola.

Blue Intense- this was a very aromatic scent that has a jasmine theme with Jasmine vine, jasmine nectar, jasmine blossom, Moroccan Jasmine and also features cashmere, sandalwood and orange floras.

I love Marc features notes of orchid, bergamot, peony, vanilla, gingerbread, cedar and cashmere.

Daisy is a playfully innocent, fresh and very feminine scent that has notes of violet petals, gardenia, violet leaves, ruby red grapefruit, musk and vanilla.

Daisy Eau de Parfum, is a more concentrated version of the favourite Daisy, that was released to celebrate its one year anniversary. It contains all of the same notes as Daisy but with a higher concentration.

Lola, often said to be Daisy’s older sister is a more sensual and mature fragrance than Daisy. It contains notes of pink peppercorn, ruby red grapefruit, rose, pear d’anjou, fuchsia peony, geranium, tonka bean and creamy musk.

All of the Marc Jacobs Perfume range are produced under arrangements from Coty.

The house of Creed perfume is one of the 100 oldest family run businesses in the world, was founded in 1760 by James Henry Creed. It is the worlds only privately owned luxury fragrance dynasty. It has been passed on from father to son since 1760. It is currently being run by Olivier Creed and his son Erwin, who is next in line to head the house. Erwin Creed will be a seventh generation master perfumer.

The Creed master perfumers have always had exceptionally high standards in the making of their fragrances. The Creed family, still to this very day use methods of hand production, including maceration and filtration, as well as being the fragrance industries largest user of natural ingredients.

Some of the perfumes included in the Creed range are:

Green Irish Tweed, Love in Black, Love in White, Himalaya, Fleurissimo, Silver Mountain Water, Jasmal and Spring Flower.

The Creed family’s fragrances are very popular with a huge variety of film stars as well as political leaders and other legends in sport, art and music. Creed never uses advertising so its popularity is spread by word of mouth alone. Creed has served more than ten Royal houses in its 249 year history.

People that have come upon trying the Creed fragrances have been known to become lifelong users of it, regardless of it being one of the most expensive perfumes. As well as not advertising Creed, it is only shipped to the finest department stores around the world. All of this leads to Creed being one of the most, if not the most, exclusive perfumes in the world.

Perfume and Cologne is used for many different reasons but it can’t be denied that the true purpose of these products is attraction of the opposite sex, we see celebrity perfumes on the market becoming increasingly popular, millions are spent each year on perfume advertisements featuring attractive models that appeal to men and women and that result in huge successes and the sale of perfumes and women’s fragrances is always increasing.

Celebrity perfume and cologne sales are soaring as more and more A list stars are developing their own signature scents. There are hundreds of searches daily for discount perfume and discontinued perfumes and the market for these products is thriving. So why are so many people buying perfume?

Perfume and cologne has been used throughout history, first, for its medicinal properties and in later times for the beneficial effects of the essential oils used in the making of perfume. Not all products contain these essences which are said to have beneficial effects on our health and well being. Most cheap perfumes are synthetically produced versions which give the same scent as the true essences that for the most part derived from plants like lavender and rose but they lack the true properties of the essential oils that designer perfumes are developed with.

The following are some of the essential oils used in the production of designer perfumes and the effects that these essences can have, showing why they are commonly used to add appeal to perfumes and colognes.

Ylang Ylang – said to evoke passion and desire.

Rose – promotes a feeling of harmony and appeals to women, instilling a sense of calm

Jasmin – a powerful aphrodisiac that has been used for centuries to stimulate the senses.

Clary Sage – well known for inducing euphoria

Patchouli – used for decreasing anxiety

Vanilla – a light aphrodisiac, subtly used in perfumes for its powers of attraction and known for creating an appealing romantic aroma

Sandalwood – another powerful aphrodisiac and commonly used in perfumes

As you can see, these properties combined with other essential oils can have a desirible effect on their users or anyone who happens to be close enough to capture the scent.

True perfumes that use the real essences are popular and users have described the effects of these perfumes on their partners and themselves as appealing and seductive, much more so than the perfumes that do not contain the oils.

Popular designers of perfume and cologne who utilize the power of these scents, such as the Versace perfume range and the Vera Wang perfume range have seen great success with their ranges and have loyal customers who will often wear no other brand, in most cases stating that the reason being, the feelings of confidence and attractiveness they found from using these fragrances would make them unlikely to switch to a synthetically produced perfume.

Perfume manafacturers are not the only ones who use essential oils, aromatherapists and massage therapists create their own blends to help their patients achieve a sense of calmness and tranquility using a wide range of essential oils.

We have established that perfume can have a positive effect on our wellbeing and state of mind, so it stands to reason that these effects will also be experienced by others who are physically close enough to us to also take in the scent of our chosen fragrance. It is common enough to hear different fragrances being described as “irrestiable” or even “addictive” and many people will find that when they are wearing a particularly appealing fragrance they will recieve more comments and compliments than they would without the perfume.

Applying Perfume and Physical Attraction

Perfume is used to enhance our feelings of attractiveness and confidence and the purpose of the properities that are added to certain fragrances are to attract others to our scent, which brings us to attraction or more accurately what physically attracts us to one another.

Sight and our senses like smell and touch are the primary factors we use to determin how attractive we find one another. No matter how much one likes someones personality, if that person was not attractive to us in at least some other physical form it would be unlikely that a sexual relationship would develop. In truth it is not all about looks, but scent and touch are a factor in attraction.

A good example of this can be found in the use of perfume. Perfume is most commonly applied to the inner wrist and it is believed that this is because this is where the pulse is strong, but although this has some truth, another reason that it is applied to this area is that subconciously we are aware that this part of our body can be used to signal openess, or willingness to being approached. For anyone familiar with body language you will know that some areas of the body, when exposed, send signals to others that we are open to being approached.

The hands and wrists feature much in body language and a woman will often expose the inner wrist without knowing why to a man she is interested in. These gestures are done without knowledge and on the part of the recipient they are noticed only subconsioucly. If you take a common place where couples meet, like a bar for instance, it is not by chance that these places are often the locations where men and women meet, alcohol lowers our inhibitions, which in turn allows our bodies to be less restrained.

When we feel more at ease our body language shows more, so adding an attractive perfume to our wrists on a night out means our fragrance is much more likely to be noticed by others, simply by lifting our drinks or perhaps raising a cigarette we are exposing this area to others and showing that we are approchable. If we find someone particularly attractive to us, we may even turn our wrists to them in conversation simply by holding our glasses up from the table as we talk.

The same notion can be applied to the neck area and it is well known in body language that we will tilt our heads, or hold them at a slight angle to expose our neck while having a conversation with someone we find attractive. Perhaps this is why almost everyone applies perfume to the neck area although we also apply it here because it allows us to smell the perfume.

While our body language has always played a big part in how we relate to others, perfume and cologne is used to draw attention to the parts of our body that are most sensitive. It is not concidence that we apply perfume to these areas.

History of Cologne – Real perfume and cologne is made using a blend of essential oils, most commonly Bergamot, Neroli, Rosemary and Lavender although citrus oils like orange and petitgrain are sometimes included and thyme is at times used instead of rosemary. Mens perfume and cologne was first developed in the eighteenth century by a man called Johann – Maria Farina, a German-Italian who lived in Cologne. He named the blend “Kolnisches Wasser” after the town.

It is not known when the brand name changed to “cologne” and the makers signature was also changed at some time to Jean-Marie Farina. The company and brand name has stayed in the family for generations with each successor to the company naming their eldest son either Jean or Johann to continue the line. Towards the end of the eighteenth century many rival brands of “eau de cologne” began to emerge throughout Europe. The most famous adopter of the use of cologne was Napoleon who was said to use around six hundred bottles a year.

The Properties of Mens Perfume and Cologne

Cologne is made up of a blend of alcohol, as the base with essential oils used to add the fragrance, The original cologne was made with potato alcohol but modern versions now use ethyl alcohol. Typically a new blending of cologne and essential oils is left to rest for a minimum of six months but a true cologne would be rested for over a year.

Ethyl alcohol is not commonly available to buy in small quantities but many people decide to make their own cologne fragrances using a bland base oil like almond oil instead. This is a similar process to the oils used in holistic therapies like massage. For a home blend of mens cologne a mixture of two hundred drops of essential oils, like the oils mentioned above, is combined with 100mls of a base oil. Experimenting with the quantities of essences will give a different aroma and you can try out smaller quantities until you find the desired scent. Home cologne, like the original is best left to rest in a cool, dark area to mature. Unlike the cologne you purchace, home made cologne cannot be sprayed and is better used by adding a few drops to a bath or dabbed on the neck and wrists.

Learn the secrets of attraction with the perfume and cologne guide and discover which perfume will knock him off his feet or send her straight into your arms. Perfumes and colognes have been used to attract the opposite sex for centuries so do not underestimate the ability of our sense of smell to attract a partner, in the past perfume oils were used to do exactly that and different scents have the ability to arouse different reactions in our bodies. Some scents are well know to work as an aphrodisiac and are commonly used today in perfumes and colognes.

Ladies perfume guide

Finding a perfume that you like and that works for you can be difficult when there is such a huge range of perfumes available, but knowing which perfume to wear and for what occasion can make a difference to how you interact with others and how others interact with you. For example, women will usually own several different bottles of perfume at any one time and more than likely they know which perfume to where on any given day, this is because subconsciously we are using our sense of smell to determine which perfume is suitable for where we are going. It is quite common for a woman to have a “work” perfume that she wears only to the office, and a “night out” perfume for a night on the town, if she has a highly developed sense of smell she may even have many different categories for her perfumes, from the perfume she wears on a girls night out to the perfume she wears on a first date and so on. So who decided which perfume was for what purpose?

We can determine through out sense of smell which perfume to choose, we may have a daytime perfume, usually these types of perfumes are light and floral scented while our night perfumes tend to be heavier and muskier. We may wear a discount perfume for everyday use or for work but keep the designer perfume for nights. Throughout this site you will find tips and information to help you choose the best perfume for any occasion as well as which are the best brands of perfume to buy.
